Honestly, the only thing that holds a candle to it in terms of technique and ferocity is As The Sun Sets... Anyways, check this shit out. Ah, one month later and I post again... It's a miracle! I'll try to keep the posting less sporadic...

Here today, we have a great specimen... My Lai, are a Chicago band named after a civilian massacre committed by the US Army during the Vietnam War. (RIP) They were active from 96-99, and played frantic, spastic, emotional hardcore; sometimes known as emo-violence. These dudes didn't release much as far as I know, (I think they released one picture disc other than the LP&EP I'm posting here) and they seem to be relatively unknown, compared to some of their contemporaries (Usurp Synapse, Orchid, As The Sun Sets)... Anyways, to me they sound like a good mix of HeWhoCorrupts or KungFuRick (the HWC incarnation of the late 90's), Orchid, and early Daughters... Lots of brutalisms countered by bits of calm, then off to more pummeling mathy riffage and some blasterbation...

State is a gritty 80's style hardcore punk band from Detroit Michigan. Apparently all these dudes have been into hardcore since the 80's so it's not really lame for them to be playing throwback style hardcore in the late 00's. You can expect everything you would expect from an 80's American hardcore band. Lots of grit, mid to fast paced drums, perfectly placed group vocals, just enough melody, and modest slop filled guitar soloing. The rad thing about this 7" is that half the songs are in German, although they are an American band. For fans of MDC, Circle Jerks, DOA, and Negative FX. Dig it!

Trendy Bastard/Krupskaya split 7"

This is a trans-Atlantic split between Trendy Bastard and Krupskaya. Each band provides 6 songs and all under 12 minutes... The 7" was put out by a bunch of different labels. (sassbologna, give praise, scene cred, + more) Both bands are pretty chaotic, and that's how I like it. Get this while you still can.

Krupsakaya is a chaotic/grind band from the UK. They rage really fucking hard. Total blur of drums, pretty chaotic, but not pure noise. Definitely some modern sounding grind here, but not 'scene' shit at all. Sounds like a mix between As the Sun Sets, Yacopse, Call Me Betty, and Discordance Axis with some vocals that at times remind me of black metal or skramz. Lots of start stop blasting and high end shit countered by tasteful chugging.

Trendy Bastard were a hardcore band from Iowa. (2003-2008) They have hints of thrash, punk, and grind popping up every where. Sometimes they sound a little bit tech-metal, but with that expected hardcore-sloppiness that we all know and love. These guys blast blast blast and then get groovey with crazy little riffs, jumping from old school thrash riffs to noisecore, driven by pumelling drums all the while the vocalist screams his guts out... I guess these guys could be compared to Tyranny of Shaw, Graf Orlock, Phoenix Bodies and other midwest hardcore. Don't blink, you might miss something.

Yea, I could compare these folks to a lot of bands but it wouldn't do them much justice. We all know and love Spoonful of Vicodin. This is their 'full length' (I use that term lightly, there's not a lot of length to this release haha). It's got a couple of familiar tracks, and couple less familiar ones. Anyways, it's good grind for you metal punx. Just guitar and drums, but this shit is fresh. Songs about sketchy Pot Heads and sketchy fucks... Songs about taking a dump on company time. What more could you ask for?

Obliteration - This is Tomorrow

Obliteration is a pretty fucking sick Hardcore band from Boston, Massachusetts in 2008 (I think, regardless they are pretty new). They have members of Knife Fight and Mind Eraser, arguably, two pretty gnarly bands. Their sound is something like a mix between Discharge style d-beat worshipping Motorhead and Doom somewhere in the Midwest hardcore scene circa 1985. Needless to say, it's fucking good shit. Would fit well into a collection of somebody who is a fan of Havoc Records. Very addicting.

Here today I present to you... LUDICRA. Such a sick fucking band. And chronically overlooked. These guys and girls (yes girls) play some really sick no bullshit Black Metal with Crust tendencies. This is just bleak misanthropic crusty black metal minus the satan, synth, and tree hugging shit. Not that there is anything wrong with those things, but black metal is supposed to be simple and straight forward and we all know it. They play in the style of Bethlehem, Darkthrone, and Gorgoroth... Just unfettered depression and hatred of society. Ludicra are from San Francisco and this record was released on the notorious Alternative Tentacles Records. They've released other records on Life is Abuse records as well, and that is record label responsible for many great bands. (Filth, Dystopia, Blatz, etc.) SO that should get you interested. I think a lot more people should be into this band!

Iron Lung is this fucked up 2-man noise rock/power violence mash up that does just fucking killer. They have their own sound and it's fucking incredible. They effectively take Power Violence to a much scarier level. So spastic, yet so fluid... From what I can gather their side of the split is a concept album, so to speak, about some shit going down in a prison.

The Shank side is pretty killer as well. They play power violence that is truly violent. This stuff is really brutal. Like if Phobia played PV. You get the picture, it's sick, brutal, and fast.

Day of Less - Porcaria

So, this band has a pretty dumb name in my opinion. BUT, don't let that fool you. These guys are sick. Maybe some of you guys have heard of this band called GAZA, who fucking rip dicks off and shove em down peoples throats... Well, if you haven't heard GAZA, this is where it all began. Most of the members of GAZA used to be in Day of Less, and most of DoL's albums sucked ass... BUT, this one is great. This is described by the GAZA dudes as "a gnarly collection of grungy post-hardcore songs". And I couldn't have put it any better myself. This is what post-hardcore SHOULD sound like. You can hear direct similarities to GAZA on this album, but you can also hear stuff reminiscent of less underground stuff like Tool and Converge with hints of sludge and stoner rock poking up here and there. It's spastic like GAZA, but it also is counterpointed by a strong melodic streak. You'll understand.

I highly suggest this album for anyone who's bored with the state of hardcore.

This compilation showcases bands like ANb, Crom, the Locust, MITB, Charles Bronson, Noothgrush, and tons more before they were scene-stars like they are now. Morgue - Eroded Thoughts

So, apparently Morgue is one of those gems that slips away from history... Well luckily, I am a gem finder. I find the gems, forgotten by society and it's many deviant subcultures. Anyways, MORGUE, they were a Death Metal (old school by today's standards) in the early 90's and they only released this cult classic along with 2 demos. They play in a vein similar to early Gorguts and with some doomy undertones. Either way, this stuff slays. It's pretty straight forward, but that's how I like it!

Floor is my favorite sludge/stoner rock band. They could be described as Godflesh minus the industrial sounds... They are the precursor to Torche, and I think they are better. These guys are definitely way underrated. This stuff all predates their self titled that I posted a couple months back. You can tell as these tracks are a bit more murky and a bit more brooding. Anyways, the tracks on this comp of collected tracks are from vinyl, and you can tell. The tracks crackle and pop like an old record, but it's still good shit. So yea, here it is in all it's sludgey glory.

OH wait, before I post the link... Robotic Empire is putting out a Floor box set with cd's, lp's, 7's, and a bunch of other junk for 250$ pre-ordered. I can't afford that, but maybe some of you guys can. Go check it out.

(although it was released after Agorapocalypse...) Anyways, it's ANb, you know what they bring to the table. Thrashing death grind with frantic drum machine blasts and insanity! It's great. The noise track is the illest.

Endless Blockade... This is sick Power Violence in the vein of MITB and Iron Lung! It's modern P.V. DONE RIGHT. It's not just retro 90's wanna be shit... They hold their own!

Get into this stuff... This is from a 7" and when I downloaded it there were just two tracks. So I separated all the tracks. I might have messed up a little on the E.B. side because there are like no pauses between their songs, but it should be straight.

Hombrinus Dudes is a 2-man grind unit from Grand Rapids, Michigan. REPPIN REPPIN. Anyways, they are really fucking sick. Like seriously. I can't get enough of this stuff. It's like if early Napalm Death was updated to the modern sound without turning into a death/grind band. (like the real N.D. did haha) Comparable to Phobia, but noisier.

I used to listen to this album all the time in like 2006, great crust grind shit from the late 80's - early 90's. These guys are legendary. The good Felix Havoc was in this band before Code 13 and before starting Havoc Records. This is a collection of all their releases aside from their demo if I'm not mistaken. I suggest all you crusties, grinders, and even death metal fans buy this album, it's worth the money; the booklet that comes with the CD has the lyrics to all 48 songs which are killer.

So Floor is the precursor to the now semi-popular band Torche. A lot of people like Torche, but you know, Floor fucking destroys anything Torche does. Anyways, Floor could be described as a sludge or doom band with pop sensibilities. They are super heavy but the clean vocals make it so even a contemporary music fan could possibly enjoy it. Anyways this is one of my favorite albums of all time. Get it.

Painkiller is another one of John Zorn's bands. It's like if Naked City was even crazier if you can even comprehend that... It's like all the most maniacal parts of Torture Garden. Some tracks are micro songs, some are like 8 minutes. Sometimes it drones out, sometimes it blasts. All you need to know is jibberish, bass, saxaphone, blasts, and feed back are highly apparent here. Also, Mick Harris of Napalm Death fame does drums and some vocals on this release. That should be enough to get you interested.

Wadge - Road to Hana

Wadge is Canada's answer to Agoraphobic Nosebleed. They aren't a total rip off of them and I think they've actually both been around for the same amount of time. I originally heard Wadge on a comp called "Drum Machine Madness" and didn't think much of them honestly... But once I heard this album I was pretty impressed. It's good stuff and I can't even really call it cyber-grind, its more like hardcore/crustgrind with a drum machine. It's really enjoyable stuff. Definitely get this if you are a fan of grind, crust, sludge, or industrial.

First and foremost I must say these two bands are what makes (made? I think ToR broke up...) the Midwest fucking disturbingly awesome. This split is like the most intense 12 minutes of screeching noise as fuck grind punk... Dig it. OH yea, Hewhocorrupts Inc. is the best shit ever.

Goatkill is this wild midi-grind band from Michigan. The thing that makes them particularly special in my eyes is that they take the chugging delight of bands like Ion Dissonance and other such baloney and add insane Agoraphobic Nosebleed speed double kicks with weird midi-sounds. So you get the best of both worlds. Midi-noise and chugging fun times. Not to mention the awesome samples. They even do a King of The Hill sample. It delivers lulz. Oh, and their song G(oat)-Unit is my shit. (A song talking shit about G-unit fans who act gangster as fuck even though they live in the suburbs and have no idea what really drives people to true gangsta mentality. Plenty of those douche bags in Michigan... plenty.)

Sadly, Goatkill is pretty much inactive, and their newer stuff kind of blows a profuse amount of goat ass. (pun intended) Also, this band isn't supposed to be taken 100% seriously. They just exist to be br00tal.

Magrudergrind is D.C. fastcore. And they fucking pulverize. They utilize elements of grind/thrash/powerviolence and everything under the fast spectrum. These guys are just unstopable. I'd say this stuff is better than their "Don't Support Humanitarian Aid Led By the Church" Lp. Seems their split material always is. Anyways, sick brutal fast grind for the punx. GET IT

Godstomper hmmm. I'm not sure what to think of these guys... They are grimy, distorted, ugly, fastcore with some groovy parts. Pretty damn good. Pretty fucking brutal. Tyranny of Shaw is, in my opinion, one of the BEST metalized hardcore bands EVER.(Their greatness is only exceeded by the masters of the genre, CONVERGE.) They take influence from a myriad of bands (Helmet, Assück, Discordance Axis, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Reversal Of Man, Infest, Napalm Death, Converge, Quicksand, Us3, old Metallica), of which creates the best hybrid sound I've ever heard. Tyranny of Shaw existed from 2001 - 2004 and should appeal to fans of screamo, deathmetal, grind, chatotic metalcore, and anyone interested in avant garde experimental hardcore shit!

Members went on to play in Bulldagger, Capsule (I'll have to upload some capsule, because they fucking slay!), Field, Maruta, Mehkago N.T., Monarcs, Shitstorm (one of my favorite grind bands!), and Torche.

Here's an upload for the Chief Commie. Gigantic Brain!!! Maniac Sci fi one man drum machine grind. If you are even the slight bit interested in grindcore then you NEED THIS! It's quite the experience, and is actually more than blast beats and screaming. I think that non-grinders can definitely get into this stuff. It'll take you on a journey 63 songs long, chronicling what would, or should I say will happen when extraterrestrials invade earth. Ed Gein is one of my all time favorite bands. They could be described as a noise-punk death/grind band. Just imagine if Napalm Death, Melt Banana, and Pig Destroyer had sexual relations and produced a freaky, three headed, anti-human, socially charged, punk rock doom baby.

Thats pretty much the best way I can describe these guys. It's really good stuff. If you are generally pissed at the state of the world, or more notably at the state of post 9/11 America then you'll love this shit. And if you want some new sick fucking grind core.

Here's their two full lengths. I prefer "Judas Goats and Dieseleaters", while almost everyone else I've talked to likes "It's a Shame...", probably because it has awesome Donnie Darko samples. They're both awesome. Get em.

Another Terrorist Organization - For Terrorists in Training

Another Terrorist Organization(RIP), or ATO as I knew them as were a vegan, bike punk, environmentalist, anti-sexist, class-war, crustcore band with a lot of lyrical criticism on the "punk" scene in the area and body image and stuff like that. Equipped with some pretty metalized yet groovy drum parts, male/female vocals, fast hardcore riffs, and a clear stance on things this band was the hot shit too me when I was 15. And they are still pretty fucking awesome 4 1/2 years later.

A manifesto and explanation of their name from their myspace(this was also in the insert in this album):

""in february of 2003 a new bill was introduced to legislature, ‘the animal and ecological terrorism act’. the act was created by the american legislative exchange council (the a.l.e.c. has corporate sponsors such as phillip morris, enron and several major oil companies) and is intended for use in all u.s. states. the act criminalizes virtually all forms of environmental and animal-rights advocacy. this act was so well received in texas that it was adopted in new york a month later. mississippi, wisconsin and washington are now showing interest. anyone could be considered a terrorist if they were to participate in any legitimate peaceful protest, civil disobedience, demonstration or debate towards environmental or animal welfare. similarly, giving money or contributing in any form to these ‘terrorist cells’ would be punishable. the act also sets up a state run website that is similar to that of sex offenders, where eco-terrorists and animal-rights activists would have to supply their name, address and current photo for three years. and finally, no journalist would be allowed into any facility to photograph or record and information to be used to defame the facility in any way, so all those dirty little companies out there will now be safe behind their big walls and barbed wire fences. the majority of our band do not eat animals. the majority of our band, have taken, or are willing to take to the streets in support of that which cannot represent itself. animals have no say. they have become expendable bio-machines. the earth has no say. it is here for us to use and abuse for profit and comfort. is this what humanity has come down to, profit over everything else? it is illogical that is not our way. we are terrorists. and this is another terrorist organization."

"For Terrorists in Training" was a very DIY CD-R demo that they put out at some of their shows back in like 2003-4? They were like "Hey, If you have like 1 or 2 dollars or whatever that'll be cool". And it was pretty cool, too bad these guys broke up. They were like my first taste of DIY anarcho-punk stuff and had a pretty big influence to me.

Skeletonwitch is this rad Blackened Thrash from Athens, Ohio. They seem to be touring constantly. I bought their album "Beyond the Permafrost" around Christmas and was very pleased. It's some of the more entertaining New Wave of Thrash stuff that I've heard. It has a very defined sound, not too cliche and very tight production. Anyways, I saw them live around March with The Red Chord. And needless to say SEE THEM LIVE IF YOU HAVE THE CHANCE! These guys put on a wicked live show. Very Metal. Abyssic Hate - Suicidal Emotions

So Abyssic Hate is my favorite black metal band. Regarded by many black metal fans as some of the best Depressive black metal out there. Suicidal emotions is quite possibly the most misanthropic album to hit human ears. Both in the sound and in the lyrics, not to mention the album cover. The atmosphere created by this album is despair,depression, and darkness. Here's what last.fm says about Abyssic Hate:

Abyssic Hate was formed as a one-man, black metal, project back in the year 1993 based out of Australia... and continues to be so to this day. IAO Music in Sacred Light

So... maybe you have heard of this guy called John Zorn... He's been around forever and he is what I'd consider a master of his art. IAO is the most prolific of his works in my opinion. This stuff is tranced out mindfuck stuff. Not like trance as in dance music, I'm talking like meditative ritual worship type of music. It's very good, there are some ambient parts, some female choir chanting, and there's even a really fast song verging on death metal. Avantgarde to say the least...
Here's what wikipedia say's about the album:

The residents of the Pitch Pipe Infoshop recently became aware of the existence of a hidden surveillance camera attached to a utility pole across from their house. The camera is hidden inside a box which is meant to resemble a standard electrical box. There are no other boxes like this on any of the utility poles in the immediate area. As the below picture shows, there is clearly a "camera-resembling-object" resting behind the transparent surface at the base of the box.

The residents of the Pitch Pipe Infoshop recently became aware of the existence of a hidden surveillance camera attached to a utility pole across from their house. As the below picture shows, there is clearly a "camera-resembling-object" resting behind the transparent surface at the base of the box.

The camera directly faces the Pitch Pipe Infoshop.

It has a clear view of the room at the top of the house.

This development does not surprise anyone at the Infoshop. In the past, the Tacoma Police Department has called its residents a homeland security threat. In the past, residents have spotted and chased away under-cover 'law enforcement' staking out the house. This development does make the residents angry, however. These photos are being released so that others may know what to look for and so that others can clearly see what the government (local or otherwise) is doing to all who vocally express their anger at the current state of things.

It is uncertain which law enforcement agency is behind this camera. This camera exists, though, as you can clearly see. Perhaps this camera has seen the residents of the Infoshop playing with the neighbors children or having picnics with the family next door. Perhaps it has seen the residents organizing a show in the neighborhood park in which families and children from across the neighborhood attended during a beautiful, sunny day. Perhaps, maybe, the camera has seen the residents acting like everyone in the neighborhood acts: like humans.

The residents of the Pitch Pipe Infoshop are not criminals and they are not terrorists, no matter what the government may try to say. They are normal people, leading normal lives. They are interacting with their community and have the support of that community. They are wonderful people who leave the door open to anyone who wishes to come in ('law enforcement' excluded).

Spread this information as widely as possible. If you choose to ignore this information, you are turning a blind eye to the constantly encroaching totalitarianism of this government. What is being reported can be independently verified by driving to the corner of 7th and MLK Jr. Way in Tacoma and walking to the alley in between MLK Jr. Way and L Street. The camera is fastened to the utility pole at the entrance to the alley (the alley ends at 7th).

Keep fighting the good fight and do not let them scare you. They have nothing on anyone and are doing these things because of one thing: fear. Fear of the population they have abused for far too long.

I think some of the people that were in this group went on to form Sea of Deprivation. Except Misanthropic has a female vocalist in some parts. Ok so this band is pretty fucking emo. But god damn it; I love this shit. It's actually some of the best screamo I've ever heard, and I think a lot of screamo fans will agree. Anyways, Daitro is from France and they started in 2002. These guys kind of sway back and forth from chaotic discord to some post-rock type melodic stuff. The vocalist is great, lots of passion, you can really tell these guys enjoy what they are doing. Well here's their second full length called "Laissez Vivre Les Squelettes". They also have a split with Ampere and a split with Raien which contains my favorite Daitro song ever , "A Chaque Fois". If you look over in my "Music Blogs" section you should be able to get some more Daitro material from "Fly Guy Die Dance." Hope you enjoy it!

No Bleeding Kansas, We Will Not Cyber With You!

Alright! Putting up a couple things for you guys today! The first one I'm gonna throw out there is The Great Redneck Hope and Bleeding Kansas split. I'm not even sure when this came out, but I'm certain it was before the Great Redneck Hope put out Behold the Fuck Thunder. Anyways, those of you that don't know, The Great Redneck Hope is a chaotic metalized hardcore band, with this kind of messy technicality that just holds it all together. Their screamer is great as well. (not to mention that The Great Redneck Hope have some of the most clever and hilarious song names.) Bleeding Kansas on the other hand is a bit less chaotic and lot more metalized. I guess their newer stuff is comparable to "The Esoteric" and "These Arms Are Snakes." I'm not sure though, cuz I don't listen to those bands. None the less it's pretty good stuff. I really like this split.

Well don't worry. I don't listen to The Number 12 Looks Like You... lulz. That band is sceney turd trash.

Anyways I constructed a mix by going into my i-tunes and creating a "smart playlist" and setting the parameters to any tracks that appears as the 12th track of their respective album with the most play counts. "Tales of Lolita" by Floor. This was the first song I ever heard by the stoner metal legends and is still one of my favorites. The first thing I said when a friend of mine showed me this little gem was, "This is the saddest fucking song I've ever heard." And it really is, but its so great, and I think on some level every male can relate to this song. haha.

"I Don't Care About You!" by Blatz. This is a great cover, by a great band. Blatz covering Fear's classic is just fuckin rad. It will fill your jeans with cream if you're a fan of punk, especially if you enjoy male female back and forth vocals in the style that only the Bay Area could provide.

"Strike Anywhere" by Another Terrorist Organization. I just have to metnion this track because it comes from a band that used to play in my town alot a couple years back, prolly in 2002. But they kind of disappeared one day and I never heard about them again. It's some pretty groovin crust grind with male/female vox. They were a just a really cool vegan, bike punk, anti-fascist, anti-sexist band.

BLASPHEME WITH ME! MYSTIFIER!

So I finally found this Mystifier album I've been looking to get my ears on for ages. The album is called "The World is So Good That Who Made it Doesn't Live Here". I first heard Mystifier on the Gummo soundtrack and I was in love. As a side note, Gummo is a great movie, and the soundtrack is swell. It was my first taste of true Black Metal, Dark Metal, and Power Violence. I suggest anyone into comps find that soundtrack, you won't be disappointed. Lots of great bands on it like Niphelhelm, Sleep, Spazz, Absu, Brujeria, and of course Mystifier; along with the random diddy's that could only come from such a mindfuck as Gummo.

Any ways... Mystifier was formed in 1989 in Brazil. Here's some info on them from their myspace:

For many christians that already heard part of the legacy of MYSTIFIER, the mention of that name makes to come to the mind: "Devil-Worshipping, Satanism, profanation, gibe, anger, noise, hate, radicalism, Black Metal, and so on". Things that His founder Beelzeebubth doesn't deny them: "Yes, 100%!! I Formed the Group to intone the most violent Musick style never created by man and to violate the whole ethical code and biblical western capitalists' principals!".

I would call this album Dark Metal, although they used to play straight up Black Metal. (With a definite South American vibe.) This album is great because unlike most black metal of today it isn't all Kvlter than th0ugh. They sparingly use awesome keyboard interludes, along with heavy dissonant guitar, on top of the vocalists great yelp screams and random Operatic chants. Very good stuff. The best tracks in my opinion are, "Give the Human Devil His Due" and "Idolatry". This version of the album also has a bonus track (which I didn't think kept up with the original six) and it also has all the tracks from their earlier Aleister Crowley demo put out in 1991. The Demo material, is well demo material, a lot more straight black metal and pretty horrible production. I didn't spend too much time on it.

I'm gonna start posting what I perceive as really rad music. Mostly stuff that evolved from hardcore, punk, and metal. Noisecore, grindcore, thrashcore, crust, screamo, mathcore, power violence, shit like that, maybe the random black or death metal band as well. Yea man. I'll probably ramble here and there about senseless things as well. Maybe I'll post some poetry also.

Well here's a "mix tape" I slapped together of some songs I'm pretty in to. The song's kind of go back and forth between aggressive as fuck to melodic and chilled. One word I could say to describe this mix; eclectic. Although it all could be considered hardcore aside from the Big Business track. Let me know if you dig it, an d what it is you specifically like.
